On Saturday May 9th the boys will head into Ardent’s studio A to put the finishing touches on their first record for the label. We’ve got a few overdubs left on “Nelson” and then we will mix that down along with “She’s On Fire”. It has been an incredible journey and it couldn’t have been any cooler of a ride even if we had been swimming in ice water with 27 honeys the whole time!?!! After Saturday, the only real important things we have to do for the record will be to decide about the sequence and get it mastered. Once that is done, then all the artwork and packaging will have to be decided on…and that’s really about it!!!! Hopefully, by late June the yet to be titled project will be available for those who love to swirl out on music.
In the meantime, the guys are working hard on new videos, songs, pictures, stories and of course… music along with the usual surprises. Rusty James is still close to our hearts and as always we look forward to seeing him in action. To all people of the world…keep on swirlin’
Alright, we have been having an absolute blast baressi style down here in Louisiana. We’ve had the pleasure of having our good friend Mike Jackson come down with us and swirl like there is no tomorrow. We made it to Lake Charles on saturday, ate at Steamboat Bills, then drove through the swamp lands of the still devastated area of southwest Louisiana. We made it to Cameron, and played a killer show for the hurricane relief rally. First off I personally would like to thank Becky for putting on the festival, and to all of the people we met down in Cameron. It really opened my eyes to the damage that the town received and my heart goes out to everyone who has suffered from the hurricanes. I was walking up a path after we played our set, and I came to this little area off the road. As I came up to it, all I saw were satellite dishes on a telephone pole, stairs to where I presume a house was, and debris. It was pretty surreal. Although Cameron seemed to have been going through hard times, the people at the festival seemed very happy and they were very accepting towards this ragged Memphis band. The weather could not have been more perfect the whole weekend. All in all the festival definitely went off with a hit. We then hit the road and continued our journey to Maurice, LA where the next phase of our journey laid, Dockside Studios. We didn’t know what to expect when we got there, but when we did, it was utopia… In my whole life I’ve never seen a place as amazing as Dockside. We spent the better part of 2 days there recording, swirling, laughing, and overall enjoying everyone’s company. There was absolute no pressure and not one negative thought or word said the whole time we were there. Me, Nick, and Curry saw a many shooting stars, Josh almost stepped on a snake, me and Nick saw an alien space ship coming up the Vermillion River at around 2 in the morning, and it goes on and on. We celebrated our successful day with a banquet-esque dinner outside on the back patio facing the river. I won’t discuss what songs we recorded, but I will tell you this: it was done live, and they feel absolutely amazing. We had the pleasure of meeting Steve, who is the owner of Dockside. He was very welcoming and seemed to be very glad that we were enjoying his establishment so much. The weekend came to a close like they all do, and we set sail back home to Memphis. All in all this trip was artistically rejuvenating at its upmost, and the overall vibe could never be beaten or taken away. I was barefoot most of the time. We will miss Dockside, but we will be back… And we plan on coming back to Louisiana and playing again for the wonderful people down there. This trip would of never been possible without Curry, Mike, Josh, Nick, Doug, or myself. Everyone shined brightly on this small vacation. We took tons of video and pictures, so you will be able to relive some of what we experienced. It will be comprised as a small documentary about our experience. Again, I almost didn’t come back. In fact I didn’t want to come back… We will never forget this weekend. We all grew as musicians that weekend. Onward and upward.
