Uncle P, Take Me To The Bay…

This past weekend was one for the record books. We hopped in Uncle P, our 89 GMC Rally Van, and headed to the Gulf Coast friday with Jeremy Stanfill. What was to ensue was a weekend we would never forget. On the drive down, everyone participated in the creation of a new song that took the Bay by storm. As we made our way into our home away from home, Bay Saint Louis, MS, we were greeted with open arms from our dear friends Brian and Miku. Eating the famed Mockingburgers while drinking Lazy Magnolia beer as the rain is falling doesn’t get any better. The Mockingbird Cafe was full of great people friday night as us and jeremy played our hearts out. It was great seeing Miku, Brian, ET, Melody, Bones, Alicein, and all of our other great friends down in the bay. Our great friend Miku made sure everything was taken care of for us down there and for that we love her dearly. Saturday, oh Saturday. Our next show was postponed until Sunday, so we spent the day/night with our great friend Steve DeWitt and his lovely wife Erin at their incredible home in Pass Christian. Upon our arrival, a contingency of dogs came to greet us, along with great company. Homemade sushi, “Gumbalaya”, all kinds of shrimp, and a crawfish boil. Steve’s hospitality didn’t stop there. Great people, stories, hiking trails, drinks, you name it. They really took care of us. Now I won’t go into too much detail, but I will say that Nick, Jeremy, and some others took an old VW camper bus to Munich, Germany, while we were there, I woke up missing my jeans not having a clue where they went, lots of dancing and swimming contests, and waking up in places you don’t remember going to. If you want to know the rest of the story, find us and ask us. Sunday consisted of playing the 2nd Annual Spring Fling at the Coast Episcopal School in Long Beach. We played out in the beautiful weather while tons of kids threw plastic eggs filled with confetti at us. If it wasn’t for sunglasses, I would have a nice shiner or two. Thanks to Aubrey and Horton for being there and making fun of certain situations to keep us on our toes. Well afterwards we recharged at Steve’s with a swim and good company and made our way back up to Memphis. We all had a blast and made a huge impact on a lot of people down there. Jeremy Stanfill, Josh, Nick, and I went all out and I am proud of all of us. We took the Bay by storm. There are pictures and video coming soon. Check out the van that the guys took to Munich though. It’s pretty rad. Well we enjoyed ourselves and made new fans down there. We plan on coming back the end of next month so get ready Bay Saint Louis! Until then, stay with us cause we have new recorded material coming soon along with more tour dates. Until then, swirl on everybody! -Geoff

I Take The Devil…

Hello all you wonderful people out there. Just wanted to give you a heads up on what’s been going on around the Star & Micey camp. Well we took SXSW by storm, and are now gearing up for other endeavors. We have been in the studio with John Hampton and Curry Weber recording new songs. It has been going very well. We should hopefully have something by the summer time for you all. We are still opening for Big Star at The Levitt Shell in Memphis, which is a great honor. We also would like to thank the Thacker Mountain Radio Show for having us a few weeks ago, and the Memphis Grammy Association. We head to Nashville to play the Bluebird Cafe soon which also will be amazing. We are also heading to the Gulf for a week to record demos with Curry Weber and bring our friend and videographer Ryan Munson to do some filming for us. We will be back out on the road this summer in our new digs, Uncle P, a 1989 V8 monster that should stay away from school zones. We had to unfortunately retire Velma. She had a good run. We would like thank all of you for sticking with us, and we love all of you. Please come and see us when and if you can. Until then, swirl on…

Here we are a swirlin…

Hello all good people. We have news from the Star & Micey camp. We have been staying a little under the radar lately to get our bearings straight and so forth. A little recap if you will- we started off the year on tour with Jeremy Stanfill, our close friend and fellow Memphian, and took the gulf coast by storm. We laughed, got into trouble, and made friends for life. Recently we unfortunately had to cancel our February tour due to financial and vehicle problems. We are really sorry to all of you who were looking forward to seeing us. At the moment we have been gearing up for SXSW and are really excited about it. We plan to play our hearts out to whoever will listen. We are also opening for Big Star at the Levitt Shell in Memphis! This is an incredible opportunity for us and an absolute honor. We are also gearing up to get back into the studio soon. We will have more music, pictures, and videos soon. We will also start working on the next tour as well. Thanks to everyone who has been hanging on and waiting. We love all of you and keep swirlin….

Dockside EP up on Bandcamp!

Hey everyone… We just put up our Dockside EP for free download here. We recorded a 4 song EP down at the incredible Dockside Studios in Maurice, LA. What we got out of our experiences there was enlightening and special. We recorded all 4 songs live in one day. I hope you enjoy and there will be more to come!

News From Headquarters….

Hello everyone. This year so far has been real good. We’ve been accepted to play SXSW 2010 Music Festival in Austin, TX, in March, and have been accepted to play the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, TN, in April. Two huge accomplishments for us so far! We are furthering our booking capabilities and are currently in the works about it. We are also working on new merch and stuff for you to get from us on upcoming shows. We have thoroughly enjoyed our time back home but are now ready to hit the road in a few days. Look out Gulf Coast! Here we come! We are also bringing our best pal, Memphis’ Jeremy Stanfill, with us to play with us. This will be our longest tour since September, a whopping 16 days straight. We will make the best of it and we can’t wait to see you if you are in the Gulf awaiting our arrival. We love you all. Until next time, swirl on…

Just Wanted To Say…

So I just wanted to let all you lovely people know that we are doing real good. We’ve recorded an awesome Christmas song that’s free to download at our bandcamp site, and some video has surfaced from the Ardent Sessions we did a few months back. We are getting ourselves together for our tour dates in December, shared with Memphis Greats Dave Cousar and Grace Askew. We plan on bringing with us a new Memphis act every time we go out on the road hopefully, as part of an idea we had almost a year back. People like Jeremy Stanfill, Rebecca Almond, Grace Askew, Dave Cousar, and many others who need to be heard from all types of people. We want to help our friends in every way possible. So if you come see us play live, look for not just us, but other fantastic musicians who deserve to be heard as well. It’s the scaled down version of The Memphis Soul Storm. We can’t wait to get back on the road. We hope to make new friends, and have more incredible stories and experiences as we

The End Of The Year Has Come

Hey everyone. We’ve been busy on the road these past few weeks and just now got a chance to update everything. First off, I hope everyone had a merry x mas, and hopefully a Happy New Year. We have been on the road for a little while with Miss Grace Askew, who was absolutely great and great to have with us on the road. We had some great adventures this time around. Spent a good amount of time in Nawlins, with Cafe DuMonde, people almost dying, great jazz music, and just your average weird folk. We did a surprise show at our favorite place, The Mockingbird Cafe in Bay St. Louis. Our good friend Miku was kind and gracious enough to have us again on such short notice. We played there the week before! I’m glad that we had both Grace and Dave Cousar get the Bay STL experience. Jeremy Stanfill will get it next month. We have had some real good times, and met some great new friends on the way. We put some new pictures up on the photo page s check them out. Right now we are in Jackson, MS then head to Saint Louis for a few days. Until then I wish you all the best and we will keep you posted. Swirl on…

Swirlin In The Bayou

Well our past weekend was full of many turn a rounds and surprises. We faced floods, near death experiences, ate great food, met incredible people, and came across a few alter egos or aliases. We headed to 2 places: Bay St. Louis, MS and New Orleans, LA. Bay St. Louis was incredible as always. Even though there was the great flood of 2009 outside, that still did not put a damper on people’s spirits. We saw old friends and made new ones. We had the best burgers in the world and got merry on the best mississippi brewed beer. Miku was and is our guardian angel down there at The Mockingbird Cafe and a million thanks to you. We stayed with our new Swedish friends Karin and Bjorn, a lovely couple from Gothenburg. We will see you soon and thanks for your generous hospitality. We saw a ghost train leave over the ocean, and then we headed west to Nawlins for some gumbo, jumbalaya, cajun fried chicken, and the best culture around. NOBODY CAN BEAT OUR SAINTS! As the town’s drunk Paul Revere-esque gentleman rode his bicycle yelling. The place was hopping, and we enjoyed beignets and cafe au laits at Cafe Du Monde while listening to our friend Tanya Huang shred on the violin. Both shows were great in their own way, and would not have been as fun and crazy without our close friend/personal hero, David Cousar. Dave (also formally known as Lux, formally known as Purvis, which is another story in itself) was right there with us swirlin it up getting crazy with us, and topping every situation that came up. We watched him melt faces and leave jaws hanging open. It was definitely an absolute pleasure having him with us. It’s not every day you get to go on the road with Dave Cousar, so we lived it up in every way. Also with us were 2 of the biggest driving forces behind Star & Micey, and that would be Karen and Sam. You guys were right with us for the craziness. We braved the mist of Mississippi to make it back home in one piece. A weekend we will never forget. Check out our Photos Page for new pics from previous tours, and from this past weekend. Video coming soon. We leave again this weekend with Grace Askew so stay tuned for more info. David Rawlings Machine

David Rawlings and Gillian Welch at Town Hall,...

Hey, I rarely buy albums but on good horse sense I bought David Rawlings and Gillian Welch‘s new album “A Friend of a Friend” and it’s pure country (real country, as in he doesn’t sound like a computer singing with a southern accent). There is a song called “Sweet Tooth” that’s awesome, it’s what you ‘d call a funny song.

P.S. If anyone ever gets a chance to go see them it will probably be the best live show you’ve been to.
